About:

Brendan Brooks is a fashion photographer, art director, and multidisciplinary artist based in Detroit, Michigan.

Brooks began photographing at the age of 14, and created his first body of work “206” at age 17. At this time, his practice involved documenting his life around him, the Midwestern landscape, and the cycle of substance abuse among youths in the heat of the opioid epidemic.

Brooks studied at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan, from 2019-2023. During this time, he focused on fashion photography, with narratives including the paralinguistic nature of contemporary dress, queer subtexts, and anthropological dissection of current fashion trends.

At age 21, Brooks self-published Carbon, Concrete, a 300-page book that contained his work from 2015 to 2023. Carbon, Concrete was acquired by the Detroit Institute of Arts, and had images exhibit in Detroit, New York, Budapest, and Brussels.
